There is just something about gummy bears that is nearly irresistible. 10% of that being the joy us savages get by biting off their tiny heads... JUST KIDDING to all of those gummy animal rights people currently shaking their fists vigorously at their screen, while preparing a stern email with a couple choice words for us and our shenanigans. But seriously, try to just eat one gummy we dare you!
Things only get better when you make them yourself not only can you actually see what ingredients you are sticking into your mix but you can get creative and add some 'special ingredients' to take your gummy bearing to the next level.
Let's talk gummy Bear shots!
That's right, what party doesn't have a little snack table and beverage bar? Not a good one we can tell ya that much! Why not mix the two together? Get the best of both worlds. All you need is a few simple ingredients and you can harness the power of creative snacking.
Tools for the Job
Every gummy bear aficionado needs his tools. Luckily you don't need a whole heck of a lot to get the ball rolling, the main amenities include a saucepan, measuring cup, bowl, unflavoured gelatin, flavoured gelatin, and the alcoholic beverage of your choice and of course your Dope Molds.
Gummy Bear Ingredients
Simple really, the classic gummy bear recipe only requires three ingredients: water, unflavored gelatin and flavoured gelatin. You can use any flavour that you would like, but you will need to completely clean your saucepan and mold before making a second flavour. Cleaning your tools prevents the older flavour from combining with the new flavour.
Mix
Place your saucepan directly on the stove, add ½ cup cold water and turn the heat to low. Add two tablespoons of unflavored gelatin and one full package of flavoured gelatin to the water. Stir over low heat with a plastic spatula or a wood spoon. Keep mixing until all the gelatin dissolves into the water and there are no sugar crystals on the bottom of the pan. Transfer the mixture into a small measuring cup or a pitcher.
Pour
You can make the gummy bears in just a few seconds after pouring the mixture into a cup or pitcher. Place your Dope Molds on a flat surface, and slowly pour the mixture into each space on the mold until it reaches just below the top edge. Give the molds a small shake to ensure the mixture settles to the bottom. Place the bears in the refrigerator or your freezer for 10 minutes or until the mixture sets. You can then remove your finished bears and enjoy.
Now if your looking for more than a light treat, here comes the fun, albeit a little bit tedious part. Simply put your gummy bears in a bowl, fill it with alcohol until it just covers the candy and then place plastic wrap over the top and store in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. You can test the bears on the second day and see if the mix is to your liking if not store for an additional day. Most the drink should be absorbed by the candy on the third day, you can discard or drink any remaining liquor. Make sure to serve the bears right away so plan accordingly when creating for a party. Be weary the bears may be small but they can still pack a punch!
